Acting generally as coupling and crosslinking agents, adhesion promoters, curing accelerators, dispersing aids or water repellents, silanes are used in numerous industries including including paints, coatings and inks, adhesives and sealants, water repellents for construction, glass wool and rock wool thermal insulating materials, plastics, rubbers, silicone rubber and polyurethane, composites, wire and cable, grinding paper, release and mold release agents, textile auxiliaries and silicone fluids, as well as for resin modification, and glass fiber surface treatment.
Silanes form strong bonds between organic and inorganic substances as result of chemical reaction, and help to obtain target performances in terms of stability, adhesion, water repellency and waterproofing, anti-corrosion and scratch-proofing and high temperature resistance. They are also used in monomer synthesis. They improve mechanical strenghts, provide resistance to alkalis, high temperatures, moisture, UV, ozone and weathering.
